We're thrilled to welcome Coach Reid to the Piranhas this season! Not only is Coach Reid an accomplished swimmer and coach with an intense love for the sport, he's also a Piranha parent and our neighbor.
Coach Reid started his swim career at age 5 in Knoxville, TN continuing to swim throughout high school and during college at UNC Chapel Hill. His hard work and dedication to the sport he loves resulted in him being named All-American and team captain in college.
The NVSL has proven to be a good fit for Coach Reid. He has spent several years coaching in the NVSL in many different divisions. In his first season as an NVSL coach, he coached his team to an undefeated season. Coaching is such a passion for Coach Reid, that he is also a full time coach for the Potomac Marlins at the Cub Run Rec Center facility. Coaching swimmers in various NVSL divisions and those at different levels with the Marlins has given Coach Reid the expertise to effectively coach swimmers in whatever personal goal they wish to achieve.
From Coach Reid: "I can't wait to share my passion for swimming with the Piranhas this summer. Summer league is about learning how to swim and compete, but it's also about community. We're going to have a ton of fun this summer, and I hope everyone will be involved!"
With great excitement we welcome Coach Alexa to the Piranhas for the 2024 season! Coach Alexa's love for and mastery of the sport of swimming is clearly evident and we are excited for our swimmers to benefit from her coaching.
Coach Alexa started her swimming career as a child in Phoenix, AZ, continuing to swim throughout high school. She was captain of her state championship varsity swim team. She also spent her teens and early twenties lifeguarding, coaching summer swim teams, and teaching swim lessons and water aerobics in the City of Scottsdale. She put her swimming skills to use, helping her team to win two consecutive championships at the Arizona Lifeguard Olympics.
She later moved across the country to Virginia and earned her Masters in Teaching from UVA. She worked as a teacher for FCPS for many years teaching elementary and middle school. After years off the deck, she got back in the water and started competing with US Masters Swimming as well as in local and regional triathlon races.
She was thrilled when her three children finally agreed to try summer swim team and her family found the Piranhas in the summer of 2022. She quickly jumped into volunteering as an NVSL stroke and turn official and loved being back in the swimming world again. Her passion for swimming was officially reignited! In summer of 2023, she was a volunteer coach, helping coaches when swimmers needed some extra instruction as well as substituting when coaches were absent. She has continued coaching as a substitute for the Potomac Marlins at Cub Run Rec Center.
From Coach Alexa: “I am so incredibly excited to share my experience teaching, coaching, and swimming with all of the wonderful Piranha swimmers. This swim team is a wonderful community and I am honored to be able to be a part of it!”
